This year for World Down Syndrome Day on 21st of March, we joined the global Down Syndrome International campaign “Together Against Loneliness”, to highlight how employment helps combat isolation.

Why do people feel lonely? When they are not supported to build and maintain connections with others, when they are present but not included.

Did you know that people with intellectual disabilities are far more likely to experience loneliness? Studies show that:

  • 39% report often feeling lonely, compared to 14% of people without disabilities;
  • they are up to 7 times more likely to feel lonely than the general population.

How can we combat loneliness? By promoting real belonging and real connection.

This is why inclusion in the workplace matters. Across our network, people with Down syndrome are not just present — they are part of teams, building relationships and contributing daily to hospitality businesses.

Employment means connection.

Employment means belonging.

This is why we call for you to continue supporting the Valueable Network members, that are hospitality businesses committed to proving real work opportunities, where people with Down Syndrome are actively partaking in tasks and teams.
